Uranus in Taurus until 2026 — A New Vision for the Earth

On May 15th, 2018, Uranus moved into Taurus for almost six months. Due to its Retrograde phase, Uranus temporarily returned to Aries from Nov. 6th, 2018, to March 6th, 2019. It re-entered Taurus on March 6th, 2019 and, at that point, will stay in that sign until April 26th, 2026 (with a brief exception from July 7th until Nov. 7th, 2025).

Whenever a planet moves into a new sign, it’s a good idea to look back at the last time it made that transit — to quote Mark Twain, “history doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes” — things obviously won’t go exactly the same, but we can expect a certain resonance or similarity. Uranus is an outer planet that takes a long time to go around the Sun; the last time it moved through Taurus was between June 1934 and May 1942; before that, it was from July 1850 – March 1859.

Before we look at those periods of history, let’s talk briefly about the themes of Uranus in Taurus, so we can spot those “rhymes” if they occur. What can we expect when disruptive Uranus moves through earthy Taurus? Well, for one thing, it would be wise to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and relaxed with being surprised.

If we were only allowed one word to describe what Uranus does, it would be “disruption”. It’s all about progress, change — but not necessarily gradual, continuous amendment of the old — this is more like breaking down and uprooting the “old” structures.

This is the planet of “vision”, and like all visionaries, it favors a revolution as the quickest way to realize the “ideal future state”. It moves toward more freedom — you could say the higher vibration of Uranus seeks freedom for all, while a lower vibration says “I need to be free to do what I want, and the hell with you”.

Uranus listens to a higher calling — a Divine Mind — and can thus be detached from emotion and “human feeling”. Depending on the vision being pursued, this can be highly beneficial, or very dangerous.

Uranus urges everyone to wake up and smell the coffee, then join together to make coffee like the world has never seen and make sure that nobody ever has to drink mediocre coffee ever again.

Some Uranian keywords: Technology, Innovation, Discovery, Novelty, Ingenuity, Originality, and Astrology.

Uranus has two major modes: The Reactive and the Intuitive Mind. Look over that list of keywords again and notice how those modes would play out for each one — “reactive” would lead pretty much every time to harm, “intuitive” to life-giving breakthroughs. As best as you can, notice how those modes will play out for you — Remain conscious! Choose well!

As you can probably tell, Uranus celebrates originality and individuality; it loves the rebels and revolutionaries who rally against the “establishment” and their established thought — or who at least put a new spin on old things. It can also go overboard and end up steering an erratic course onto the rocks.

So much for Uranus — what of Taurus

With Uranus in Taurus, we are getting a chance to have an amazing new exploration of our own values and connections to our bodies, our resources, talents, etc.

Taurus is connect to…

Taurus is connected to the Earth. This would include the practical uses we make of it — first and foremost, for growing our food, but also for ownership and stewardship of its land and resources. It also covers our most personal “resources”, i.e. our talents, and our values. Just as the land brings forth life, Taurus is also the sign of fertility; just as we honor the material reality of the planet, Taurus calls on us to honor our bodies.

Ask yourself: How might technology or particular inventions support my values? What needs to shift on a collective level in regards to what we value and how we make use of our resources? What breakthroughs will we make when it come to our physical body? The planet? How we exchange payments?

Among other things, Taurus rules the following: farming, finance, high-quality food, comfort, sensuality, beauty, the voice (e.g. singing), the five senses, the practical and useful, and producing something with your hands (for example, putting up a building is very Taurean).

Now that we’ve covered the major themes of Uranus and Taurus, let’s take a look at those two historical periods.

What do we see when we look at these turbulent times through the lens of Astrology? Are there any Uranian themes we see running through them? And how does that Taurean influence play out? Let’s look at July 1850 – March 1859 first, then move on to the period between June 1934 and May 1942).

Wagner and Verdi fused classical themes with contemporary music to create Grand Opera. Charles Dickens and Tolstoy revolutionize the novel, while Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass” changes poetry forever.

Florence Nightingale becomes a pioneer of modern nursing and profoundly affects people’s perceptions of women and their capabilities.

Stronger, cheaper steel is invented, along with the Otis Elevator – people begin to envision buildings so tall, they would be called “skyscrapers” (Taurus rules the making of buildings).

Gregor Mendel begins studying genetics, Neanderthal remains are discovered, and Darwin presents his Theory of Evolution.

The Financial Panic of 1857 closed the banks for two months, while out West, gold fever gripped the nation; and the Trans-Atlantic cable sent a telegram across the ocean in real-time.

Many things we now take for granted were invented in this period, among others: gasoline, mass media (the first major newspapers were published in London), pencils with attached erasers, blue jeans, potato chips….

Now let’s look at the period from June 1934 – May 1942.

This more recent Uranus/Taurus transit was one of tremendous upheaval, with much undoing of old structures. In the US, the “New Deal” accelerated and radically changed how government worked, including the introduction of “Social Security”. And of course, having gained power in 1933, the Nazi party swept away Germany’s “Weimar Republic” and used new technologies to realize Hitler’s murderous vision.

Many inventions came to light during this time, some that would change the course of human history in very fundamental ways: antibiotics (for the first time, humans could “beat”, not just “treat”, disease). If you are reading this on a “programmable computer” of any kind (smartphone, PC, etc.), its ancestor was created at this time. Work began on the first nuclear weapons.

Frank Lloyd Wright built “Fallingwater”, and the first entirely glass-covered building went up in Illinois (note the advances in building techniques). The 1936 Berlin Olympics became the first live television event (and viewers could watch African-American Jesse Owens win four gold medals). A positive vision of a “superman” was also advanced in comic books and literature: Superman, Batman, and Captain America went on their first adventures. Perhaps some of those stories were written in the ballpoint pen that was rapidly replacing the old “fountain” pens.

You could drive a car with an automatic transmission down the first modern highway in America (the Pennsylvania Turnpike), perhaps burning some of the oil recently discovered in Saudi Arabia. If you drove all the way to California, you could grab a burger and fries at a new restaurant called “McDonald’s”, where two brothers pursued their vision of “fast food” by applying Henry Ford’s production line techniques to food preparation.

As you can see, the pace of change in both periods is pretty staggering – and certainly, the world has not slowed down any since then – so what areas of life should we look at for a new vision to emerge in?

Firstly, we can expect lots of practical applications for technologies, innovations and discoveries, especially those that came to light within the last 7 years (while Uranus was in Aries). People will be teeming with ideas to make life easier (or at least more comfortable) on a physical level — this goes not just for humans, but for the planet and all its residents.

Farming might also see tremendous change — growing our own food could gain in appeal – perhaps with the emergence of new technologies that support us with food production and gardening.

We may get a wake-up call concerning the planet’s condition, leading us to change how we view it (and use its resources). In general, this long transit builds our awareness of physical matter and how we treat both our bodies and the only planet our human bodies can live on without an air-tight suit.

Our attention is also directed to the ways we spend our money and who looks after it for us (banks and the financial system). Will the cryptocurrencies that have gained tremendous ground over the last 7 years profoundly disrupt the banking “world”?

Finally, we clearly have a responsibility to be very careful which visions we value and pursue (and which visionaries we listen to) – will we reap the benefits of that intuitive Uranian mode, or come from the reactive, fear-based mode that can cause such harm to ourselves, each other, and our planet? It’s up to us to decide in every moment.

Chiron in Aries until 2027

On April 17th, 2018, Chiron moved from dreamy, sensitive Pisces to fast-paced, enthusiastic Aries, where it journeyed until Sept. 25th, 2018 — you could regard this as a preview of coming attractions, since Chiron moves into Aries again (after having retrograded back into Pisces for several months) on Feb. 18th, 2019 at 4:10am EST… and then stays in that sign for 8 years!

What is the significance of Chiron? It’s considered the bridge between the limitations of the physical and the unlimited nature of the non-physical (or spiritual) world. Often referred to as the “Wounded Healer”, it reminds us of our humanity — and guides us to see it as a gift.

When we take responsibility for our human limitations and move past seeing them as “wrong” or “bad”, our inner gifts and uniqueness can emerge more completely and powerfully.

Let’s look now at Chiron in Aries: The day after Chiron moved into Aries in 2018, the Sun conjuncted Uranus in that same sign. This points to the possibility that Chiron’s journey through Aries places a strong emphasis on liberation of the self — this time around. Chiron in Aries is all about the wounded warrior, the Healer-Hero that emerges from a Warrior’s healing journey. The healing path consists of …

…seeing, acknowledging, embracing, and finally loving ourselves just as we are: physically, emotionally  and spiritually — especially when it comes to our personal goals, leadership and inspirational abilities, our ability to take action, our “masculine” drive.

Broadly speaking, then: our capacity to go after what we desire…

We get to see that we all have the ability to heal, and be healed, through our actions. Each of us can step into our inner healer in our own unique way.

You can ask yourself: What is the next step on the path of healing for my inner child, my inner wounding? How were my ancestors wounded around “the masculine”? What step can I personally take on that healing path?

Chiron in Aries also has us look at some of the following: How we express our anger (or how we do not express it), how we might further heal our relationship to our body (this includes sexuality, gender, etc.) and our personal desires; how we do or do not take initiative, display courage, and practice self-determination.

Ask: What would a healthy sense of identity, independence, and willpower enable me to do? Might accepting my limitations lead to unique ways to move with those energies? What makes me an individual? What are my unique desires and goals?

There is also an emphasis on injuries (especially head injuries), physical flaws, issues around anger and assertion of our anger, impatience, being ok with who we are. All of these issues could feel sensitive and fire off our “triggers” or bring up shame.

One thing is for sure: Chiron in Aries will show us a new perspective and will open new doors of healing for us — likely a physically active Healing Journey. To the extent that this transit highlights our leadership abilities, the journey is toward becoming a different kind of leader, a non-traditional one.

This question lies at the heart of that journey: How do we channel our masculine energy?

This is a very important question, if we are to become a conscious, holistic warrior. Picture the film actors Bruce Lee, Jet Li, or Michelle Yeah — they are consciously connecting the active physical with the emotional and spiritual — through martial arts in their case — you might also picture a great practitioner of Yoga — we’re talking here about a conscious, holistic relationship to physical dynamics.

What do we see in great practitioners of these arts?

Among other things, they seem to understand that impatience is wanting to move faster than what is required in the now moment.

They take responsibility for their triggers around reactivity, impatience, aggression, inconsiderate leadership, etc. and have an understanding for where it comes from (ancestors history, childhood) and what the impact is on others.

They look for unique ways to express themselves and channel those energies in a healthy way, sometimes in a new, non-traditional way. They ask “What might be the alternatives here?”

They are compassionate with themselves and others when it comes to expressing masculine energies.

Like them, this journey of Chiron through Aries is not about aggression, but rather assertiveness. For all of us, whatever our starting point, it is also about acknowledging and embracing limitations around anger. We also need an open, compassionate awareness as to whether we are responding or “reacting” to our circumstances.

As we develop understanding for our inner “wounded” child and our “human” limitations (in parallel with the above) we build a space for compassion. In fact, I recommend you celebrate your limitations. Why? Because that means you are compassionately aware of them — and awareness is always the first step towards healing.

Walking these paths can continually recreate us as leaders with an holistic approach and a healing, compassionate presence.

Were you born between April 1968 and May 1976? Or Oct. 1976 – March 1977? If the answer is yes, you have Chiron in Aries in your natal chart, and will have a Chiron Return within the next 8-9 years. This means that one cycle of your Healing Journey is coming to an end, and a new one is beginning: you are getting a chance at leaving the past behind, and moving forward with greater acceptance of your own humanity.

Is your natal Chiron in the first House of your Birth chart? Is the ruler of your natal Chiron’s sign in Aries or in your first House? You too will be able to relate to the Hero’s Healing Journey…

In one of my webinars, we talked about Chiron in Aries (and Uranus in Taurus) in relationship to our own birth charts — major shifts ahead! Feel free to purchase this webinar here — if you haven’t seen it yet.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or any personal planets) in Aries, Libra, Capricorn, or Cancer? If so, you will be more affected by this transit over the next 8 years. This is also true for those of us who have our Sun-sign in Aries, since Chiron will move through this sign for the next 8 years.
