May 7th – 13th | Astrologer Coach Sonja Francis

Pay Attention – Forecast for May 7th – 13th, 2018

Personally, last week was all about getting the ball rolling on things that had been on hold since the Mercury Retrograde started in March — yay for Mercury exiting its shadow phase!!!

Before we get to this week’s forecast, I have one quick announcement:

You may remember that I’ve been talking a lot recently about Chiron in Aries and Uranus in Taurus (aspects that remain relevant until 2026). If you’d like to learn how these major two planetary shifts might impact you personally, you may want to catch this free 15-min excerpt… from my recent Forum…

SUPER-GREAT Forum Sonja – I learned sooo much – can’t wait to re-listen – thank you!!!” — Mary Beth W.

This week’s headline items: the last Quarter Moon in Aquarius becomes exact on Monday and the Balsamic Moon phase begins Friday. Mars enters its shadow phase on Saturday, and Mercury changes signs from Aries to Taurus on Sunday.

There will be three Moon VoC phases this week: Tuesday late evening (for almost 1 hour), Friday early morning (for a little over 3.5 hours), and Sunday afternoon (for 10 minutes).

Monday (May 7th): the Moon remains in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius all day. It will journey there until Tuesday late evening. The energy of the Aquarian Moon relates to our instinct for improvement. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional; interactions more impersonal than personal. We are likely to have an increased fascination with the new and unusual.

Social gatherings, anything connected with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas and methods, progress: all these are promoted during the time the Moon moves through Aquarius. Again: we have our eyes on the future — or on outer space 🙂 Personal freedom becomes paramount. With this Moon placement we can feel already the build up towards the last Quarter Moon (exact on Monday late evening).

Monday early morning, a challenging Mercury/Pluto aspect becomes exact at 4:52am EDT. We started to feel this aspect build from last Saturday afternoon (May 5th) on, it will remain strong until this Wednesday afternoon (May 9th). This aspect creates some tension in our lives. We may feel anxious or stressed by one or more situations or interactions to do with…

…our own personal goals.

We are being invited to grow and make some changes in our lives, particularly in terms of our thinking processes. We are being asked to find creative solutions and be completely honest with ourselves and others. The best way to achieve this is by the continual practice of self-care and self-nurturing.

We have tremendous focus and drive right now, which can tip into obsession. With this aspect an all-or-nothing attitude is very likely. Choose love over fear whenever possible. Not many people enjoy being second-guessed all the time, yet that is something that we are inclined to do now.

However, our determination to get to the bottom of any matter, to rip away falsehoods and expose true motives, can be used for good if we employ it in our work, for example, in regards to investigations or research. This is an opportunity to learn to harness our intense mental energy and apply it productively. We are also capable of very hard work, focus and effort now.

We have a great love of debate, but should be careful that we don’t overpower others with our strong opinions, attempting to “convert” them to our frame of mind, or treat regular exchanges of opinion as battlegrounds. Connect to yourself and others, empowering yourself/them with what you feel passionate about.

Choose your words/thoughts carefully, from a deeply connected and empowered place rather than from a place of fear, self-protection or a need for survival.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 18-24 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Libra or Cancer? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Scorpio (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Pluto rules Scorpio)

Monday early evening, a challenging Venus/Neptune aspect becomes exact at 5:58pm EDT. We started to feel this aspect build from last Saturday morning (May 5th) on, it will remain strong until this Thursday morning (May 10th). We can be confused, unrealistic, or overly idealistic around love and money — so it’s best to wait until the transit is over, before making big moves in these areas — if you make long-term financial investments, buy or sell big-ticket items, or start brand-new relationships, it’s likely you will not see things as they truly are.

We are actually being asked to have faith; to let our intuition guide us in money and love — if we are able to do this, we will grow through it. As best as you can, be compassionate with yourself and others during these 5 days — it might also help to know that relationships and endeavors of a spiritual or artistic nature can move forward at this time.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 13-19 degrees of Gemini, Pisces, Sagittarius or Virgo? If so, you are more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Pisces (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Neptune rules Pisces).

Monday at 10:09pm EDT, the last Quarter Moon in 17.5 degrees of Aquarius becomes exact. The Moon in Aquarius makes a challenging aspect to the Sun in Taurus. We started to feel this aspect build from the moment the Moon entered Aquarius last Sunday morning (May 6th).  This may bring challenges; however, it also energizes us to look at what needs to be completed — and what needs to be changed.

This Moon phase brings us closer to May 15th’s New Moon in Taurus. With the last Quarter Moon, rather than starting major new projects, it serves us to take a look at what needs to be completed. What — if anything — needs last-minute adjustments? What did you discover since April 15th? What did it mean for you? What actions could shift the things you seeded or started in mid-late April?

As best as you can, find creative solutions for anything that comes up (whether internally, or with others).

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 15-20 degrees of Taurus, Aquarius, Leo or Scorpio? If so, you will feel this month’s last Quarter Moon quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).

Tuesday (May 8th): the Moon remains in freedom-loving, forward-thinking Aquarius until 11:11pm EDT (see Monday for more details).

Tuesday late evening, a Sun/Jupiter opposition becomes exact at 8:39pm EDT. We started to feel this aspect build from last Saturday morning (May 5th) on, it will remain strong until this Friday evening (May 11th).  This aspect can bring an opportunity to open up our consciousness through other people. As best as you can, expand your perspectives about intimate relationships, other people’s resources and be open to bringing some optimism to those areas of your life.

The urge to grow and expand is strong, but we might overreach — and hasty actions could backfire. As best as you can, don’t expect too much from others or yourself; avoid over-promising, and create deeper connections whenever you can. Use humor 🙂

Projects or ambitions may come to a culmination point, or undergo surprising changes; ask yourself: What insights am I receiving? Where can I go from here? What if I walked in their shoes, just for a moment? Where would I walk to?

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (MC) or any personal planets in 15-22 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius? If so, you may feel more affected by this opposition. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Sagittarius (the Sun rules Leo; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).

Tuesday at 10:29pm EDT, we enter a Moon Void of Course (VoC), that last for almost an hour, until 11:11pm EDT. Use this intuitive time as an opportunity to connect with others, exchange information, and move personal projects forward.

As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don’t start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Tuesday late evening ahead of time.

Tuesday at 11:11pm EDT, the Moon enters creative, sensitive Pisces where it will journey until Friday morning.  This Moon placement often finds us more sensitive, intuitive, idealistic and imaginative than normal. We also have a greater capacity for compassion, sympathy, and affection for all — but especially for those who suffer or can be regarded as the underdog.

But… that very idealism could also be our downfall at this time: We tend to see the best in everyone and everything, and when reality doesn’t match our idyllic vision, we might feel upset and even victimized by those harsh realities. A way out of this is to channel our idealism into spiritual or creative endeavors.

It’s also a great time for releasing fears — especially the ones based on a sense of separation — and experiencing “oneness”. Feelings tend to flow more freely; as best as you can, let them — in fact, “going with the flow” is the best way to go for the next couple of days.

Wednesday (May 9th): the Moon remains in creative, sensitive Pisces all day (see Tuesday late evening for details).

Wednesday afternoon, a somewhat challenging Venus/Jupiter aspect becomes exact at 2:36pm EDT. We start to feel this aspect build from Tuesday morning (May 8th) on, it will remain strong until Thursday morning (May 10th). This aspect operates more on an internal level. We feel uneasy about something, almost awkward — and we need to make a choice. An inner awareness needs to be developed in order to see what needs adjusting.

This aspect is a fork in the road. We could take the path of learning about inner dialog and sharing ourselves with others by being open and curious — or, we could take the path that leads to increased understanding of intimacy and resources that are shared with others.

Either way, we can develop a new perspective on how to approach these things. Awareness is key with this aspect: What is needed? How can we serve the broader view?

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 17-19 degrees of Gemini or Scorpio? If so, you will feel this aspect quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Sagittarius (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra; Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius).

Thursday (May 10th): the Moon remains in creative, sensitive Pisces all day (see Tuesday late evening for details).

Thursday early morning, we feel more sensitive and need to slow down a little. This is a great time for spiritual or creative endeavors. Energy work, or anything that requires our intuitive side, will work best for the next several hours.

Thursday late morning, a nice feeling of ease and an ability to trust and connect deeply with others. As best as you can, trust your intuitive sensing right now, allow whatever comes up to be beneficial for you.

Thursday early afternoon: we feel a need to go within — and also want to connect and learn from others. This tension clearly invites us to stretch a little and resolve it through creative solutions — the key here is to listen to our intuition, so we don’t drive ourselves or others crazy.

Thursday afternoon: we get an opportunity to be very present; also to connect with others and share practical advice, or simply enjoy “the good things in life”. As best as you can, bring a sense of flow and faith to who you are being, and allow yourself to slow down and connect with nature.

Thursday late afternoon, we have the opportunity to be guided by inspiration, and fully commit to a project or task that might serve us long-term. As best as you can, listen and trust to the subtle messages in your heart, that stir you towards success.

Friday (May 11th): the Moon remains in creative, sensitive Pisces until 8:40am EDT (see Tuesday late evening for details).

Friday at 5:02am EDT, we enter a Moon Void of Course (VoC), that last for a little over 3.5 hours, until 8:40am EDT. If you are awake during this intuitive time, take the opportunity to go within and listen to your subtle intuitive “voice” — your heart — then focus anew on your long-term goals.

As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don’t start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow. You may also want to plan Friday morning ahead of time.

Friday at 8:40am EDT, the Moon enters pioneering, fast-paced Aries, where it will journey until Sunday afternoon. Life is an adventure, we’re more open to new ideas, and have great enthusiasm for new projects. Patience is certainly not our strong suit at this time, but we can decide quickly, and act immediately.

Our independence and dynamism are important to us right now, so we may find it hard to be disciplined or accept advice at this time; in general, our responses to others tend to be more assertive or even aggressive. If you find your foot tapping, try hitting the gym, or finding other ways to burn off the body’s excess energy.

Friday evening, a harmonious Sun/Pluto aspect becomes exact at 7:10pm EDT. We start to feel this aspect build from Tuesday morning (May 8th) on, it will remain strong until next week, Monday evening (May 14th). This aspect brings a sense of focus and empowerment to our long-term goals. We have the ability to look at everything in a very down-to-earth manner right now; through our understanding of “what is and what is not”, we can make more powerful choices.

We can also deepen our understanding of our own motivations and look closely at where we are heading. This aspect also brings an intensity and a depth to our conscious awareness; therefore this is also a great time to transform our lives, stripping away anything — even people — that no longer connect with who we are.

Ask yourself: How can I live more authentically? Is there anything holding me back? What fears and attachments could I release now, that no longer serve my evolution? Am I willing to let them go, just for now, and just as best as I can?

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 18-24 degrees of Taurus, Capricorn or Virgo? If so, you will be even more blessed by this aspect than those who do not; this is also true for those of us with our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Scorpio (the Sun being the ruler of Leo; Pluto rules Scorpio)

Friday late evening, the Balsamic Moon phase begins, when the Moon reaches 9.5 degrees of Aries.  This lasts until Tuesday morning, when the New Moon in Taurus becomes exact (for those of you who are impatiently waiting for my New Moon video, click here after May 10th). We are being asked to slow down and get quiet, so we can listen to our intuition.

For some of us, this might be a stretch. As best as you can: stay grounded, take a deep breath and exhale any tensions. Rather than starting something brand-new, put all that energy into completing existing projects or processes. This is also a great time for letting go of whatever no longer serves us. What if you could hear the voice of your inner wisdom? What might it be saying?

Friday night (Saturday very early morning), a somewhat challenging Venus/Pluto aspect becomes exact at 1:05am EDT. We start to feel this aspect build from Thursday evening (May 10th) on, it will remain strong until Saturday evening (May 12th). This aspect operates more on an internal level. We feel uneasy about something, almost awkward — and we need to make a choice… so we need to develop inner awareness.

Fear of disappointment is causing some tension. Our inner need for growth requires honesty about what is causing those fears — most likely our own lack of good boundaries and self-esteem. Watch out for getting pulled into overly burdensome roles in other people’s lives, because you feel it is required of you, this can often be a path into “control issues”.

As best as you can, carefully examine your motivations and self-image: How do you feel about your ability to communicate, share yourself and connect on a deep emotional level? What role does fear play in all of this?

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 20-22 degrees Gemini or Capricorn? If so, you will be more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus, Libra or Scorpio (Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra, while Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio)

Saturday (May 12th): the Moon remains in pioneering, fast-paced Aries all day (see Friday morning for details).

Saturday late morning, a challenging Mercury/Mars aspect becomes exact at 9:30am EDT. We start to feel this aspect build from Thursday (May 10th) on, it will remain strong until next week, Monday evening (May 14th). Due to the recent Mercury Retrograde phase, we get to experience this aspect several times; this is the third and last pass within the last 10 weeks.

This gives us a chance to address our approach toward any misunderstandings. This aspect brings some juicy energy to our conversations. This is a chance to have some discussions that have been overdue.

As best as you can, make it a productive discussion that serves you and others — a win-win — otherwise you might feel really awful afterwards. Also, watch out on the road for some crazy drivers… rushing might not necessarily get you there faster 😉

Do you have your Ascendent, Career Point (or any personal planets) in the following: 25-29 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer, or 0-1 degree of Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio or Leo? If so, you may feel more affected by this aspect. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Aries (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Mars rules Aries)

Also on Saturday, Mars enters its 6.5-week shadow phase, when it reaches 28.5 degrees of CapricornThis precedes the retrograde phase, which will begin on June 26th in 9 degrees of Aquarius (more on that in 6 weeks).

So what is the “shadow phase”? To explain this, I’ll quickly cover what happens when a planet “stations” and then goes “retrograde”.

Relative to us on Earth, a planet sometimes looks like it is slowing down (“stationing”), then stopping. After being still for a while, it actually appears to go “backward” through the sky (this is the “retrograde” phase). It’s a little like catching up to a car on the highway, driving exactly alongside it for a moment, then passing it and pulling ahead.

At first, retrograde movement is slow, but the planet gradually reaches its normal pace through the sky — except it’s going backward. The process then reverses itself: the backward pace slows, the planet crawls to a “halt”, then it starts to move forward again (i.e. it goes direct). In our car analogy, it’s like the car you just passed gradually speeds up and passes you again.

There are also two “shadow” phases — during these, the planet travels over a part of the sky it will later “revisit”. The first “shadow” comes before the planet moves backward; the second comes when the planet starts to catch back up (after going direct).

It’s like you went hiking and left something behind at camp. If you went back to get it, you’d have some catching up to do, and would see the same scenery twice or more. Mars’s shadow phases usually last 6-7 weeks before and after the Retrograde phase. Pay attention to what you do or pursue during this time; you may need to revisit or redo them during the Retrograde phase.

Sunday (May 13th): the Moon remains in pioneering, fast-paced Aries until 2:15 EDT (see Friday morning for details).

Sunday morning, a Mercury/Uranus alignment in 29 degrees of Aries becomes exact at 6:50am EDT. We start to feel this aspect build from Friday morning (May 11th) on, it will remain strong until next week, Tuesday (May 5th).  With this alignment, an important insight is coming through, something new is preparing to enter consciousness – and we are getting the urge to move forward. We might experience some really unusual conversations. Our mind could be flooded with new information and ideas, and we most likely feel enthusiastic and excited by these fresh ideas and insights.

It’s a time when we could achieve real breakthroughs in the form of ideas, communications, and the mind in general — but coupled with the possibility of edginess and impatience toward those who don’t “get” our new insights. Nervousness, impulsivity and fidgeting could be a by-product of this alignment as well.

Computers and electronics may suddenly become important. We’ll likely have flashes of insight into our own mental workings, original thoughts, etc. As best as you can, and as much as you want to, stay open to other dimensions and stay grounded in your body. That way, all that energy can move through you, without shaking you to the core 😉

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in the following: 26-29 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn, or 0-2 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius? If so, you will feel this aspect quite strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini, Virgo or Aquarius  (Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo; Uranus rules Aquarius).

Sunday at 8:40am EDT, Mercury changes signs from enthusiastic, fast-paced Aries to steady, peaceful Taurus, where it will journey until May 29th. For the next 3 weeks, our thinking shifts gears: we want to connect to others in a realistic, down-to-earth way and we “say it like it is”. We appreciate common sense; we rely on our senses when it comes to processing information.

A well-developed sense of color, smell, and touch are characteristic of this Mercury position, so as long as Mercury is in Taurus, we will be drawn towards the “tasteful” in the realm of the five senses. We are more likely to have a no-nonsense approach to decision-making, and our ideas are often very practical and useful at this time.

When it comes to learning, we prefer demonstrations, concrete answers, and basic concepts for the next 3 weeks. We learn best when we see real-world uses for the theories we are trying to absorb. We simply process information better when we can personalize it (“what use is it to me?”) and attach it to the practical world.

Do you have your Ascendant or Sun-sign in Taurus? If so, you may feel more talkative during this time. Do you have your Ascendant or Sun-sign in Gemini or Virgo? If so, you may need to slow down and “smell the roses” 😉

Sunday at 2:05pm EDT, we enter a brief Moon Void of Course (VoC), that last for 10 minutes, until 2:15pm EDTUse this intuitive time to connect with people that can enthusiastically support your projects and share with them what you have going on. As always with a Moon VoC, as best as you can, don’t start anything brand-new, stick to routine things, or simply go with the flow.

Sunday at 2:15pm EDT, the Moon enters steady, peaceful Taurus where it will journey until Tuesday late afternoonWe love all physical comforts, prefer consistency, and would rather stick with what we know works well.

In other words: change is not our favorite thing and “rushing things” goes against our grain. What is our favorite thing for the next two days? It’s probably, slowing down and getting in touch with whatever delights our senses 😉

A heads up for next Monday (May 14th): the Moon remains in steady, peaceful Taurus all day (see Sunday afternoon for details). The Moon makes several aspects throughout the day… More about all the details in next week’s forecast.
