On May 18th at 5:11pm EDT, the Full Moon in 27.5 degrees of Scorpio becomes exact. The Moon in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio opposes the Sun in steady, peaceful Taurus.

The last month has been filled with intense cosmic attention, directed towards what’s working (and what isn’t) in our lives at this time; this was related to the Station phases that have been activating trauma residues, clearing cellular memories, and giving us an opportunity to restructure our consciousness.
This Full Moon shows us how far we have come, as well as what we must still release or transform, if we are to manifest what was begun at the time of the New Moon that occurred on May 4th.
For the next two weeks, we seek the balance and integration of two polarities — and are more aware of something that needs to be brought into alignment. The balance in question is between our physical attachments, aversions, and connections — symbolized by Taurus— and our emotional attachments, aversions, and connections (Scorpio).
The time of any Full Moon is always more extroverted and emotional; this particular one invites us to let go of fears or disempowering behaviors, and thereby break through to the next level of our evolution.
So, here’s this Full Moon’s central question: Are we living in alignment with our values, with what makes us happy and satisfied? As a society, as people, as individuals… Do we feel empowered and emotionally fulfilled?
All right, let’s look at the signs involved in this polarity, beginning with Taurus…

Taurus seeks comfort and material stability. It’s concerned with our relationship to the planet, and with the physical plane in general — and with a hugely important part of our relationship with ourselves, namely “self-esteem”.
Of course, Taurus also has a shadow side: attachment to material things, especially when using them to make up for low self-esteem, seeking to feel better about ourselves through indulging in physical pleasures, and last but least: immovability — wanting to keep things the same, usually so we don’t experience physical discomfort (or any kind of discomfort).
Scorpio, on the other hand, craves transformation — and it seeks this in part by putting us in touch with our deepest desires and worst fears, bringing them into conscious awareness, so that we can see and release what no longer serves, or whatever has become stale or toxic. Put another way, it helps us move from a “survival mentality”, to a passionate engagement with life.
Ask yourself: Where in my life do I observe a “survival mentality”? In what ways might I have protected myself from feelings of hurt or disempowerment?
It’s essential to bring conscious awareness to the walls we have built to feel protected and more “empowered”. Addressing past traumas and any sense of disempowerment is the only way to allow for the return of trust toward others (and life in general). By acknowledging our fears and breaking down those walls we can transform into truly powerful beings of love and inner strength.
What is Scorpio’s shadow?
Attachment to emotional connections (even if they are toxic), avoidance of emotional pain, armoring and protecting ourselves from incidents of disempowerment that no longer exist outside of memory, trust issues, black-and-white thinking, addiction to drama and darkness (or substances)… and anything we want to prevent: Scorpio’s shadow sees us coming from an instinctual, self-protective place, rather than from intuitive, love-based spaciousness.
Scorpio wants to go beyond the surface, to our deeper motivations. For the next two weeks, ask yourself: Where do my behaviors bring disempowerment to others or myself? Where do my behaviors simply bring pain? What propels my sense of attraction or repulsion? What turns me on about life? What scares me?
Now, let’s talk about some of the aspects of this Full Moon chart:
Mercury aligns with Sun in Taurus: this indicates that we have a strong need to take an active role in communications over the next two weeks — it is very hard for us to passively listen and absorb information right now. What we say or write now has impact, so as best as you can, choose your words wisely.
Ask yourself: If people hung on your every word, what would I say then? What would I hold back from saying? Might it serve me to practice listening to others and myself? What might a practice like this look like? What if I acted as if I was being 100% heard by others? What if I returned the favor?
Our opinions are unusually strong; we are proud of them, and of our thoughts at this time — and may be particularly stubborn as well… For the next two weeks, please keep in mind that it may not always serve us to dig our heels in, so choose your battles wisely.
Instead, ask yourself: On a scale from 1-10, with “10” being extremely important and “1” being not important at all… how important is this? ? If it’s below a 5, could I simply let it go? If it’s a 5 or above, could I express myself fully, knowing that others may have different opinions? Could I be ok with that, knowing that I communicated what was important to me, and that’s all I can ever do?
Mercury opposes the Moon in Scorpio: this is an invitation to find a balance between connecting to what we value on a physical level, and what we need in order to make deeper emotional connections with others that are based on trust and empowerment.
Integrating a practical mind that is mostly attached to feeling comfortable with intensely deep feelings that come from past trauma is not always an easy task; when it is accomplished, however, we get to experience wholeness and emotional satisfaction through honest and consistent connections with others.
When it comes to our interactions with others, we tend to have a great nose for bullshit right now 😉 Emotional authenticity is extremely important to us — in fact, anything less than 100% emotional honesty could be perceived as flat-out dishonest.
This combo can make for very focused and deep conversations. However it is also possible that we might find ourselves unable to get in touch with our feeling-body, because we are too caught up talking about what’s important to us, and how we want to manifest this our lives. We may prefer to have peace rather than to explore emotionally complex situations with others.
Ask yourself here: What might it require of me to have emotionally fulfilling relationships? What happens when I suppress my feelings? Or when I don’t process emotionally difficult experiences? Is is possible to work through my traumas with others and find peace in the process? What might a dash of trust and courage do for me?
Remember: Scorpio is a water sign; flowing water cleanses, when dammed up, water gets stagnant, toxic; eventually it will spill over. The larger the reservoir of unprocessed emotional experiences, the more intense those spillovers become, precipitating conflict, illness, and crises of all kinds.
The question here becomes, what would you rather have: a moment of discomfort and vulnerability — like getting caught in the rain — or a lifetime of pain and crisis when that dam bursts?
Pluto, the modern ruler of Scorpio, is currently in Capricorn together with Saturn and the South Node. Pluto trines the Mercury/Sun alignment in Taurus and sextiles the Moon in Scorpio. This is a perfect opportunity to take a look at our long-term goals — and empower ourselves by being completely honest with ourselves about where we are with them, and where our divine purpose wants to take us.
Ask yourself: What needs a closer look (and deep honesty with myself) when it comes to my long-term goals or achievements? In what area of my life do I still not feel fully empowered? What needs to be addressed and brought up into full consciousness in order to get to a place of emotional authenticity with myself and the world?
What scares me the most about this? What if I had the courage to do this in spite of all my fears or concerns? What would that look like? What would be the first small step towards my own empowerment in the world?
Saturn in Capricorn also forms a Trine to the Mercury/Sun alignment in Taurus. This makes it easier for us to recognize what we value most, and how to manifest it long-term in the real world — partly by helping us stay focused on our priorities — it is, in fact, a very favorable combination for manifesting things.
Ask yourself: What if I brought a sense of responsibility to the table? What would being present and focused right now do for my long-term goals? What’s the most practical step I can think of right now?
Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is currently in her own sign and aligns with Uranus: This gives us the opportunity to experiment with a new way of relating to others, and ourselves. Freedom plays a big part in our interactions over the next two weeks.
Ask yourself: What unusal or different social connections are calling to me at this time? In what ways do I need to break my current routines? What might happen if I stayed open towards new experiences in my relationships, including the one with myself? How might that feel?
Mars, the traditional ruler of Scorpio, currently in Cancer sextiles the Venus/Uranus alignment in Taurus, and squares Chiron in Aries:
The sextile to the Venus/Uranus alignment is an opportunity to get emotional support in our social endeavors with like-minded people. It helps us create intimate or close personal relationships with others.
This could also be a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, and pleasure in general. As best as you can, watch out for messages from the Universe, and ask yourself: What actions might lead to a unique experience that aligns with my values?
The Square to Chiron: This aspect invites us to stretch and grow beyond what we thought was possible in regards to our masculine energies. It requires a creative approach and an ability to see our insecurities around anger or self-assertion as a part of being human.
We may experience triggers that are connected to past wounds from childhood. Take this as an opportunity to grow and allow yourself to notice (rather than judge) your reactions.
Ask yourself: How old am I, when I react to my triggers? What if there was no shame in my feeling angry? No matter how strong the feeling? What if I could connect with the part of me that got triggered and see it as valid and needing my love and understanding? How might a compassionate approach support me next time around?
To sum it all up: This Full Moon reminds us that life and death are entwined, that every new beginning is the end of something else, and vice versa. Ask yourself: What behaviors and habits need to come to an end to make way for me to create more abundance? What fears and traumas need to be investigated and made conscious, so I can be more in touch with my own worthiness, and better see my own value?
Trust your inner truth-meter. Choose love over fear. Most modern day fears are not usually based on anything that is actually happening in the moment but are instead mostly based on imaginary futures (worst-case scenarios), or traumas from the past (that we want to prevent from happening again). Although fear often causes us to run away from troubling situations, at a deeper level, fear really means: “to go through it” or “to see through it”: False Evidence Appearing Real.
We have the persistence to go after our divine purpose for the next two weeks, and thereby step into a more fully empowered self-experience… As best as you can, therefore, release what you have outgrown, and focus where you actually have influence, rather than forcing things and struggling to change what you have no control over.
Some final questions: What do I want to grow now in my life? Where do I need an emotional detox? What is surfacing? Could I simply allow it to? Could I temporarily suspend the need to judge it, “understand” it, get rid of it?
Might focusing on my long-term goals help me balance physical and material priorities with any deep emotional needs I may have at this time?

This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
