On July 16th, at 5:38pm EDT: the Moon opposes the Sun in 24 degrees of Capricorn — this is a Lunar Eclipse becoming exact (the entrance of the Moon into Capricorn on Sunday evening (July 14th) starts the energetic build up towards this powerful Full Moon). This Full Moon is actually the second of two Eclipses in July; the first one was the Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 2nd.
Eclipses are always powerfully connected to the Moon Nodes and thus to our Soul’s Journey. For my Members: If you’d like to learn more about this month’s Full Moon, click here to watch my Lunar Eclipse video.
Lots of planets are involved in this powerful Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse chart — Saturn, Pluto, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Neptune — and all play an important role, so buckle up! Of the 11 astrological “planets”, 6 are retrograde at the time of this Eclipse, indicating that we have lots of inner processes going on — and it will be important to honor those processes.
This Full Moon is also the first Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn since the Moon Nodes moved into Cancer/Capricorn in late 2018. This puts an emphasis on balancing those two polarities and integrating them both within ourselves and collectively. With Eclipses this is a longer term process — in this case, a process that will last until Nov. 2020.
Let’s take a look at those polarities: The Moon in practical, accomplishment-oriented Capricorn opposes the Sun in protective, feeling-oriented Cancer.
We have a heightened sense that something must be brought into balance and reintegrated; the balance in question is between the experience of our feelings and our emotional needs (symbolized by Cancer), versus our outer obligations or material, practical goals (Capricorn).
It’s important to realize that our long-term goals need our attention — and that they are the very thing that will bring the fulfillment and inner stability we seek. A realistic approach will work best here! Ask yourself: Where might the balance point be between the demands of my inner and outer life?
Cancer and Capricorn are both…

Cancer and Capricorn are both receptive “yin” energies, so clearly we are asked to go within before taking action. Cancer says we must recognize our own needs in order to feel internally stable — if we don’t manage this, we’ll give our power away to others, becoming victims, sacrificing ourselves for our family, job, etc.
Capricorn seeks to develop an internalized sense of authority and responsibility. This Eclipse is thus asking us to look closely at how we balance taking care of ourselves (Cancer), versus how we want to contribute to the world at large (Capricorn) — in other words, where we have reached our limit, and where we need to set some priorities.
Any Full Moon also has us look more closely at the denser vibrations or shadow components of the energies involved. With Cancer, this is our ability to receive, and to feel safe from within, but what protected us in the past may no longer answer — our needs may have changed over time.
Ask yourself: Where am I holding on simply because it is familiar? What do I need to feel safe in the world? How does my inner life inform my outer?
What if self-care led to self-alignment? What if the same were true of nurturing my feeling body? Given those possibilities, might it be worth spending 5% more time and energy on self-care, just as an experiment?
With Capricorn, we need to take a look at those parts of ourselves that are domineering, rigid, unforgiving, self-servingly ambitious, status-seeking, and hierarchical.
As best as you can, be really honest with yourself, and ask: What is my relationship to “control”? Where do I try to control life? Other people? Where do I control myself by suppressing my needs or feelings? Is it at least possible that a slower step-by-step approach might improve my ability to be present to what’s needed in the moment?
Let’s take a look at some other aspects of this Lunar Eclipse chart, starting with the most exact ones: Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is currently in its own sign (Capricorn). Not only does it make a close alignment with the South Node, Pluto and the Moon in Capricorn, it also opposes Venus, the North Node, and the Sun in Cancer.
So let’s unpack all of that: The ruler of both signs of this Eclipse are in Capricorn. The Moon rules Cancer; and it aligns with Pluto, the South Node and Saturn in Capricorn — this indicates that we are not merely focused on our long-term goals, we might be a little obsessed, and are also feeling a deep responsibility to our commitments — a need for structure and accomplishment, and for emotionally authentic and empowering long-term goals.
We get the sense that we must dig deep, take responsibility for how we feel, and commit to our long-term goals — we must take our time over building and manifesting, rather than rushing into anything… and, as always, releasing anything that is toxic or self-destructive.
Ask yourself: What is my relationship to power? Do I distinguish between power that comes from within versus power that is connected to external components? Do I feel empowered in my choices of how I contribute to society and the world? Do I feel comfortable with the social structures that are currently in place — and with the limitations they bring? If the answer is no, what might happen if I got 5% more comfortable with being uncomfortable? And if the answer is yes, what would it look like if I let go of holding on to being comfortable, just for right now?
Saturn, Pluto, the South Node and the Moon oppose Venus in Cancer, the North Node and the Sun. This asks us to find more meaningful connections to others. Existing relationships built on weak foundations may not survive — but those that are can be improved and further strengthened.
Ask yourself: Do I like how my relationships are unfolding and growing? How about my business partnerships? If I needed something different, what might that be? What would feel nurturing and mature at the same time? Can I start by embracing these qualities within myself first?
Chiron in Aries, and Mercury in Leo are both stationing at the time of the Lunar Eclipse — and both are therefore exalted.
Mercury started its 3.5-week retrograde phase on July 7th; Chiron began its yearly 5-month retrograde phase on July 8th — and this adds an extra layer of vulnerability around our personal wounds, and around our experience of “the masculine”, both within and without.
We may also have a restless mind and feel impatient, become demanding or hard to please; we tend to feel like we are not enough — and that progress is too slow and we are tired of waiting.
Ask yourself: Am I exhausting myself? What might shift if my masculine “doing-energy” stood in service to my intuitive, receptive feminine? What role does my thinking play in all of this? Where might I be over-thinking things? Around my creative self-expression, perhaps? Around fun, joy,…? What if I could speak my truth, be true to myself, and love myself, no matter what I have done, said, or thought in the past?
The good news is that Chiron and Mercury make a Trine with each other for two weeks (strongest between July 1st and 14th); this provides wonderful support for our healing process when it comes to our physical-active energies — and is also an opportunity to heal issues around anger, dominance, and sexuality or gender identity.
Healing happens when we are able to embrace our own imperfections and limitations, and come to see them as valid, rather than as proof that something about us is “broken” or “wrong”. Self-compassion and a greater understanding of our wound-history helps us embrace ourselves as we are — we may even start to love ourselves because of our flaws, not in spite of them.
Ask yourself: Have I felt shame when simply “being who I am” made me seem separate from others? Did being identified with my personal goals or passions, and wanting to go after things for myself, perhaps cause shame as well?
Have I ever felt shame for my relationship to anger? Could I simply acknowledge those memories? Could I cut myself a little slack, just to see what would happen? What if a compassionate approach to my inner wounded child not only benefited me, but also helped others? What if I simply decided that I am exactly what I need to be?

Neptune in Pisces trines Venus & the North Node in Cancer, and sextiles Saturn & the South Node in Capricorn; this brings a wonderful flow to our ability to trust, rest, let go, slow down, and nurture ourselves; as well as an opportunity to allow for our long-term goals and commitments to unfold.
Ask yourself: Who supports my journey towards greater self-realization? Could I allow any such connections to grow stronger, deeper, more meaningful?
If I got really quiet, might I get a glimpse of the love that is always present, within me and all around me? How can I be 5% more gentle with myself? What if I was 5% more forgiving with myself and others? How might my day unfold if I visualized a transmission of love and compassion when getting up in the morning?
Last but not least, Jupiter in Sagittarius quincunxes Venus in Cancer, and square Neptune in Pisces. The quincunx to Venus marks a fork in the road: Will we take the nurturing, caring path of familiar connections and safe emotional exchanges? Or the path that leads to a larger understanding of life and our role here on Earth?
Awareness is key with this aspect: What is needed? And when? How can we serve the broader view?
With the Square Neptune in Pisces, ask yourself: What if I chose “kind” over “right”? What if I took a step back and examined my beliefs and attitudes? What benefits might I reap from allowing myself extra time for inner work and spiritual growth?
To sum it all up for this Full Moon:
This Lunar Eclipse urges us to become totally committed to letting go of what has defined and protected us in the past… To let go of whatever distracts, detours, or drains us, especially when it comes to our public persona or career.
Ask yourself: What has become too costly in terms of my time? My energy? My resources? Where do I need to say “no” so I can say “yes” someplace else?
When we experience inner balance, we can be both responsible and kind — integrating oppositions brings limitless benefits — so as best you can, focus on what inspires and nourishes you.
Ask yourself: What shifts are needed at home? At work? Where do I need to set clear boundaries? How could I experience more nourishment and support? How might I be of support to myself? What might processing my emotions do for me in the long run?

Please keep in mind that Eclipse Season lasts until July 31st. Allow for changes, remain flexible and adaptable, and find creative solutions in day-to-day interactions with others. Allow also for new downloads and for the release of “old” codes and conditioning. Simply put: an open mind and heart will serve us best (that’s true in general, but especially true until Eclipse season ends 😉
Another thing to remember: if something is beginning or ending in a way that seems organic… allow it to be. As best as you can, observe your feelings and stay grounded in the “here and now”. Connect to your intuition and inner wisdom; they will help carry you through this period. We are receiving a consciousness upgrade — that’s a good thing!
