On May 4th, at 6:45pm EDT, the New Moon becomes exact in 14 degrees of Taurus. This marks the beginning of a new Moon cycle.
As best as you can, get really quiet, and see if you are getting any new messages or ideas. If you are, harvest them, and fold them into any intentions you set for the new Moon cycle — I will talk about this process later in the forecast, and I’ll even give you the very best and most potent times for performing it 🙂 Click here to watch my video on the subject
This New Moon in steady, peaceful Taurus places more focus on our interactions with the physical world — you could say that we seek a healthier relationship with “matter”, one in which we are neither too attached, nor too disconnected from things on the physical plane — for example, our bodies, resources (such as money), and the planet we co-inhabit. We are powerfully reminded to take the time to honor the only planet we can currently live on — The Earth — to honor its resources and beauty.
In much the same spirit, we are invited also to honor ourselves, our bodies, and our talents. This is a good time for reevaluating our relationship to money and possessions, and for discovering what truly makes us happy and fulfilled; check in with yourself: What came to mind when you read this?
Let’s talk about some of the aspects in this New Moon chart…

The New Moon sextiles Neptune in Pisces and trines the South Node and Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn also happens to be exalted at the time of the New Moon, having gone into its yearly Retrograde phase only 5 days prior, on April 29th. An exalted, yet retrograde Saturn suggests that we will focus on our long-term commitments, with a drive toward self-mastery.
Should this process take place at an unconscious level, or without the appropriate steps, we will create a tremendous amount of pressure. Our resistance to this pressure could generate low level anxiety, even depression; as best as you can, slow down a little, and focus on what’s sitting right in front of you that needs to be taken care of so you can get to the next phase of accomplishment. Rushing will backfire right now.
Ask yourself: What does self-mastery look like for me? Considering where I am right now in my life, what inner commitment am I ready to make? Where are my efforts best applied at this time? Where do I want to be more “effort-less”?
The Trine to Saturn and the South Node promotes a realistic and responsible long-term approach. We have the chance to better align our goals with our values; it’s easier for us to sustain what we have started, and we bring a heightened sense of commitment to it all. We are also invited to evaluate anything that has become rigid or oppressive in our lives around long-term commitments or achievements.
Ask yourself: If I am completely honest, what do I truly want for myself long-term? What really matters to me? What would it look like if I build something sustainable and long-lasting that aligns with my values and talents?
What healthy boundaries could I put in place to honor my body? My enjoyment of life? What would help me “slow down and smell the roses”?
The Sextile to Neptune is an opportunity to join our need for material comfort and enjoyment of life to a gentler, more intuitive approach.
Ask yourself: How might meditation or mindfulness — simply being present in the now-moment to all the energies inside and around me — support my enjoyment of life? What might merging my five senses and my sixth sense look like? What small (or huge) actions can I take to make this happen?
In our next Forecasting Forum on May 21st, we will talk in more detail about Neptune’s movement in our own birth charts, getting to the bottom of questions like this: What is coming into your awareness from June 1st – July 13th in regards to universal love, compassion, oneness, and divine connections? What area of life is impacted by this heightened experience of compassion and idealism? Feel free to join us, of you would like to hear more about it. As always, Star and SuperStar Members are automatically registered, and will receive an email to join on the day of the live webinar 😉
Venus, the ruler of Taurus, moves through Aries at the time of the New Moon. This means we currently have more energy than usual and are thus more likely to want to get out of the house and be active with others.
Ask yourself: What is something new that I want to engage in? What do I feel passionate about? Does the relationship to myself need a jumpstart? What do I personally value that calls for me to take initiative at this time? If I had no apologies, what would I do to truly support a healthy connection to myself and life? What would I connect with?
Venus also trines Jupiter in Sagittarius. This enthusiastic connection supports us in seeing the “bigger picture”. We tend to relate to others in a positive (even inspiring) manner; as you can imagine, it is thus much easier to make social contacts. We have plenty of energy, and our outlook is cheerful and hopeful, the atmosphere cooperative.
Ask yourself: What opportunities are opening up to me at this time? What actions might bring about expansion? What if I asked “who” as well as “how”?
Since Venus is in Aries, let’s also briefly talk about Mars (the ruler of Aries), to see how our active side might support our values and our relationship to our “persona”, in other words, how we show up in the world.
Mars is currently in Gemini, opposing Jupiter in Sagittarius. This combo brings lots of enthusiasm to our interactions with others. We have an abundance of physical and mental energy at this time; consider channeling this energy into studying, exercising, or outdoor activities like hiking.
We may also feel more restless at this time, need a lot of personal freedom, and feel enterprising and ambitious — we want to “make it big” — so watch out that you are not overreaching. Ask yourself: How might I catch myself if I started to do that?
Mars also quincunxes Pluto in Capricorn. This combo asks us to create an inner awareness and make some adjustments. Our desire for speed might run into our higher purpose/divine will’s interest in sustainability and authenticity.
Ask yourself: How does my inner dialog derail my desire for empowerment out there in the world? Is it possible that being impulsive or scattered creates more fear around long-term achievements? If so, how might I be able to empower myself? Others? What if I went “deeper” rather than “faster”?
To sum it all up for this New Moon: it is in our best and highest interest to honor “spirit” in form — we are all spirit beings having a physical experience — yet becoming overly attached to the physical world is just as unresourceful as rejecting it altogether.
The New Moon in Taurus also reminds us that ultimately, happiness is an inner state, and requires an inner, highly individual process: we each must walk our own path to happiness and inner fulfillment, and the more we can honor ourselves, our talents, and our relationship to the physical realm, the more we can connect to the love and abundance that surrounds us every moment.
Ask yourself: If the physical world was an expression of my divinity, what would I need to add or subtract to experience it as a place of peace, abundance, and radiant love? Might adding a daily dash of love, grace, and gratitude add to my experience of this physical journey?

The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle. This is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase. So this month, the best and most potent time to set intentions would be between 6:45pm on Saturday, May 4th until 11:10am Sunday late morning — then again, at 11:40pm Sunday late evening, until 6:45pm Monday evening (May 6th) — all of the above times are given in US East Coast-time.
Note, that there is a long Moon void of course on Sunday late morning — it runs from 11:10am EDT until 11:40pm EDT. Don’t set your intentions during those 12.5 hours — instead, allow intuition to surface possible intentions while you wait. For more info on setting New Moon Intentions, click here
If you live in a timezone other than EDT (US-Eastern Daylight Savings Time), feel free to join my Facebook Fan-page or follow me on twitter. I will be posting reminders on Saturday evening, Sunday morning, and Monday — to let you know that it’s the best time to set your intentions 😉
Do you have your Ascendant or any personal planets in 12-16 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
