On Nov. 15th at 12:07am EST, the Moon aligns with the Sun in 23 degrees of Scorpio, beginning a new Moon cycle. This New Moon brings us closer to the beginning of Eclipse season, which starts on Nov. 20th — my next Full Moon video will be about the Lunar Eclipse in Gemini.
This New Moon is also a SuperMoon. “SuperMoons” occur when the Moon becomes either Full or New while unusually close to the Earth and are therefore more powerful. They generate greater gravitational and electromagnetic forces and therefore increased effects on our physical, mental, and emotional bodies. This also facilitates greater shifts in consciousness. This is the third of three Super New Moons in a row.
With the Super New Moon in passionate, all-or-nothing Scorpio, our focus is directed to our intimate relationships, and our deepest desires and fears; if you’d like to learn more about this Lunation, check out my video on the subject, here
Scorpio is the second water sign of the zodiac, so it relates not only to the depths of our own psyche, but also to the ecstasies and traumas of relationships. Before we jump in and talk about the Scorpio energy and how to understand it better and connect to it, let me mention that with this Super New Moon we are also dealing with two exalted planets, both moving much slower at this time:
Mars, the traditional ruler of Scorpio, is currently in Aries and still exalted due to its station; it just started to change directions again on Nov. 13th (ending its 9-week Retrograde phase) — and Neptune is also exalted over the next several weeks, as it is preparing to end its 5-months Retrograde phase — for more on those planetary movements, in connection with our own birth charts, get the “Mars in Aries & Neptune in Pisces Exalted”. In connection with Mars, ask yourself: What has come up for me since July 25th around self-identity, aggression, or personal passions? What, if anything, have I already revised, reprocessed, or redone since Mars went retrograde back on Sept. 9th? How will this new connection to myself, and the things I identify with, impact the next steps in my life?
In connection with Neptune, ask yourself: What have I learned since June 23rd about trusting the flow of life and my intuitive voice? My intuitive sensing? How might this understanding help me interact more from a “loving heart”? How might this impact our moving forward collectively?
The gift of compassion and forgiveness, the gift of an open heart that seeks to understand, is our gift to the world and to the collective journey — even when it is so hard sometimes to wrap our minds around how others react or behave in certain situations.
The Station phase of Neptune allows us to fully see how an open, forgiving heart can shift our experience and our interactions with others; ask yourself: What’s in my present awareness? What asks for my attention when it comes to resting, trusting, and allowing?
What’s confronting me around a long-term dream of mine? When I tune into myself, what do I feel connected to? What if I tune into life itself?
Neptune in Pisces has been in a Square to the current Moon Nodes in Gemini-Sagittarius since mid-September 2020, and this will continue until late February 2021. Its current Station phase will give this Square more weight between Nov. 12th and December 18th.
Notice when your busy mind distracts you from the present moment, when your beliefs or assumptions take you on a detour, away from what you are sense is true in this moment, and when “being right” becomes more important than “being connected” or “coming from a whole-heart”.
When you notice any of the above, ask yourself: How might a moment of silence bring me back to what’s here now? Might it allow me to drop back into my heart? Might it support me in finding a heart-connection with myself and others?
Now, let’s talk about Scorpio and some of the other aspects in this New Moon chart: Scorpio is associated with…

Now, let’s talk about Scorpio and some of the other aspects in this New Moon chart: Scorpio is associated with three creatures: the Scorpion (a solitary creature symbolizing self-protection and instinctive desire), the Eagle (who has a wider awareness and control over its desires), and the Dove (who has transcended personal desire and brings peace and healing to others).
Ask yourself: What am I gifted when I face my deepest fears? What if there was always only transformation as a result of going deeper, towards what scares me the most, never an actual death of any kind?
What if a journey through the valley of darkness led ultimately to my standing in my true power? How might surrender, trust in a higher power, and letting go of resentment & fear give me a better understanding of peace, authentic connection, & inner strength?
Scorpio also deals with our Shadow issues. The “Shadow” is all the suppressed, denied, or undeveloped qualities of our personality — and wherever we have yet to fully integrate these disowned aspects, we feel disempowered, and are left vulnerable to manipulation or domination.
Furthermore, what we reject in ourselves, we often project onto others — for example, we may experience the “shadow” of rage as explosions with others or implosions within ourselves. That which we disown, owns us; whatever we resist, persists. So, what Shadow issues need to be addressed over the next four weeks? What benefits might I reap when I transmute my Shadow issues?
Here are some questions to help you reclaim your projections: Who really bothers me “out there” in the world? Who do I love to hate? What specifically bothers me about them?
Some more questions in the same spirit: Who do I admire and why? What scares me most about myself? What recurring, uncomfortable, or scary dreams (or daydreams) do I have? What do I love to joke about that feels just a little uncomfortable?
Noticing our own desires, fears, or sense of humor is important, because the Shadow also makes itself visible through those.
This Super New Moon trines the exalted Neptune in Pisces. This makes it easier for us to trust, and to flow with energy currents, rather than struggle against them. It also makes it easier to release past traumas, or emotional attachments that no longer serve us — respectively keeping us in a lower vibrational place.
Ask yourself: What traumas from my past are asking to be released? What if I took a closer look at some old resentments, fears, and misperceptions? If I gave those difficult experiences my conscious awareness, my love and spoke the truth about them might this dispel any darkness I still feel around? Where could I allow myself to open myself up emotionally?
What am I afraid would happen if I let go of needing to be in control? What am I afraid of happening if I completely surrender to Life? To Love? If “out of control” was simply a matter of perspective would I still resist it? Would I dare to embrace it? Could I trust, just for right now, that there is always a “bigger” plan at play? Could I simply ask my Higher Self to support me in letting things unfold for the highest good of everyone involved — rather than assuming I know what that might be?
This Super New Moon also sextiles the Jupiter-Pluto-Saturn alignment in Capricorn. The Sextile to this alignment gives us an opportunity to deepen our authentic connection to our long-term commitments. We are invited to cut out anything that is toxic and step into a more empowered experience socially — including how we want to be seen out there in the world. We are invited to let go of fears connected to our long-term goals.
Ask yourself: What needs a closer look (and deep honesty with myself) when it comes to my long-term goals or achievements? What serves me long-term? What empowers me and is sustainable?
In what area of my life do I still not feel fully empowered? What needs to be addressed and brought up into full consciousness in order to get to a place of emotional authenticity with myself and the world?
What scares me the most about this process? What if I had the courage to do it in spite of all my fears or concerns? What would that look like? What would be the first small step towards my own empowerment in the world?
Where are my opportunities for making long-term commitments in connection with intimate relationships or shared resources? What emotionally authentic connections do I need to make to smooth the path right now?
This aspect also supports our moving from survival mode to a passionate engagement with life and the society we belong to. A passionate approach is key here, but surprisingly perhaps, so is empowering others.
Ask yourself: Is it at least possible that a trusting, emotional connection with others might create more authentic and passionate engagement around what I’m building for the long-term? What might transform if I focused 5% more on what I actually have control over? What roles do self-responsibility, realistic self-assessment, and healthy boundaries play in all of this?
As mentioned earlier in this article, Mars, the traditional ruler of Scorpio, is currently in Aries and is still exalted, due to its Station phase. Mars changes directions on Nov. 13th and feels exalted until Nov. 23rd. This makes for a very active time, but it could also bring up impatience, frustration, impulsiveness, and aggression.
As best as you can, be mindful how you are relating to this exalted energy within you and channel it in healthy ways: Exercise, take actions that feel empowering to yourself and others, don’t rush into doing anything when you are feeling emotionally aroused, instead take a deep breath and talk about what you would like to do, or journal on it first, etc.
When feeling aroused or impatient, ask yourself: Does this definitely need to happen now? Does this action support everyone involved? Is the outcome of this action beneficial to me in the long-run? Who could I talk to about my current frustrations? What might support me in releasing some of these energies without causing any harm to anyone (myself included)?
Feel free to also check out my video presentation about Mars & Neptune changing directions, to see how all of this is impacting you personally — to purchase this webinar, click here.

Mercury in Scorpio makes an Opposition to Uranus in Taurus, and a Quincunx to Chiron in Aries. The Mercury/Uranus Opposition may heighten the issue of projections. Uranus is the archetype of revolutionary change, daring us to think way, way outside of the box; it breaks up old forms and patterns, forcing us to re-form and re-envision.
We may find that we disagree with other people’s values. We may be restless, even anxious, and therefore feel pressure to act (or react), regarding others — these feelings could also be connected to financial decisions or partnerships.
If you experience fear or uncertainty in any of your relationships or partnerships, focus on something you could really get excited about and get behind in a realistic, grounded way — something that could make a difference, something meaningful. As best as you can, be open to receiving feedback from others during this time.
If you get entangled in controversy, ask yourself: How open-minded and flexible could I allow myself to be right now? What alternative tool might provide me greater freedom or diversity (financially or otherwise)? How could being emotionally truthful with myself and others — despite my fears — create a shift?
Also, if empowerment only existed in the “now moment”, could I surrender my fears or concerns connected to the past or the future, and simply be present in the here and now? What if I trusted my Higher Self enough to release any suspicious, fearful, or protective thoughts that may arise?
Check to see: If I don’t go into memory or possible futures, am I ok right now? If I am, is it at least possible that I will be ok in the next moment? And the next?
Mercury is still in its Shadow phase until Nov. 19th, so use this time to talk about things that may have come up during the Mercury Retrograde phase (Oct. 13th – Nov. 3rd).
Mercury in Scorpio quincunxes Chiron in Aries: This could create mental insecurities, leading to some unexpected emotional reactions; as best as you can, forgive yourself for having a human moment — this will support your healing process.
This aspect operates more on an internal level. We feel uneasy about something… so, as best as you can, be kind and compassionate to yourself. The best way to deal with Quincunxes is not to keep looking for the exact solution, but to keep looking for ways to feel ok when things are not an exact match, or something is uncomfortable.
Check to see: Do I feel unloved? Unworthy? Simply not good enough? And if I have those feelings, could I allow them simply to be here, just for right now? Could I be open to the possibility that these feelings are coming up right now, to be acknowledged and witnessed?
Check to see if you are maybe revisiting themes that came up around Oct. 4th and Oct. 22nd.
Ask yourself: What was present in my life at that time? How would I characterize my relationship with the active/masculine energies within or around me back then? Did I have any realizations about my body? My intimate relationships? My personal goals?
What was my understanding of what needed further healing/compassion or self-forgiveness? What still does? Could I hang out with any discomfort this is stirring up inside of me, just for right now?
Last but not least, let’s talk about Venus in Libra making an exact Square to Pluto in Capricorn. Since Pluto (the modern ruler of Scorpio) is currently closely aligned with Jupiter and Saturn, Venus ultimately squares that whole line-up in Capricorn.
Venus represents our relationships and that which we most value. This Square challenges us to find meaning in our life through partnerships. We must now uncover the deeper layer of our life. With Pluto in the mix, social interactions could be intense; as best you can, empower rather than disempower. It’s time to let go of destructive attachments and connections.
Ask yourself: How can I grow and evolve in my relationships? Is there a relationship that I need to grow and evolve out of?
As best as you can, stay grounded in love, not fear. Stay flexible and open-minded, and of course, nurture yourself; make sure you have everything you need to be able to come from a place of inner strength & empowerment.
To sum it all up for this Super New Moon: Being open to trusting the process and going with the flow are key! Most of our lives are shaped by fears: too much of something, not enough of something else, not being loved, not being liked, being judged, rejected, the experience of physical or emotional pain, loss, death, etc.
Scorpio territory is not easy. Facing our deepest feelings and fears, confronting our demons and our death is the most difficult work we will ever do. But the rewards it brings — inner peace, freedom, and wholeness — make it all worth it.
This Super New Moon in Scorpio invites us to let go of whatever is dead (or toxic). Often, this is connected to past disempowerment — fears based either on “what was”, or on a possible future in which we would not be ok — and all this can be scary and stir up the desire for control. The survival brain thinks that control brings power, certainty, stability… but it’s all an illusion based in fear.
Remember: “Fear” is resistance to life, whereas “Love” is acceptance of life in all its forms: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Ask yourself: As best as I can, could I acknowledge any self-resistance? Resistance toward others? To life itself? And, just for right now, could I simply let go of wanting to resist what is? Could I set all inner tension free… just as best as I can… just for right now… just as an experiment in freedom?
The key is to realize that “letting go” is not about loss, but about transformation — and, ultimately, about feeling empowered, since every ending is also a new beginning.
Trust also plays a big part here, just as it does in all our intimate relationships and authentic connections — and trust, whether in ourselves or with others, is something that develops over time — and for those of us who have experienced traumatic events or circumstances, this process can take a little longer.
Ask yourself: What if true intimacy with another is only possible when I allow for the full range of emotions? What if my capacity for love and joy grew exponentially in relation to my ability to embrace my fears and pain?
Again, flexibility and open-mindedness will definitely help for the next 28 days. Embracing our humanity and practicing self-compassion, especially around our inner processes and limitations, provides an opportunity for healing.

Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in 21-25 degrees of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle. Intentions are best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase. So this month, the best time to set intentions would be any time between 12:07am until 6:13am on Nov. 15th; then again from 10:47am (on Nov. 15th) until 12:07am on Nov. 17th — New York Time/US Eastern Time
If you live in a timezone other than EDT (that’s the US East Coast time zone), feel free to join my Facebook Fan-page or follow me on twitter. I will be posting reminders on Nov. 15th early morning and afternoon/evening, on Nov. 16th throughout the day and night, to let you know when it is time to set your intentions 😉

28 degrees Scorpio Ascendant here; thank you very much! When I experienced your Youtube vid on the last [I think it was] June New Moon, your coaching was so locked in sync with my Conversation with Spirit, I listened; and now smile at my 6-page hand-written transcription of the questions you therein presented. Much nicer to have joined; much nicer to not to have to repeatedly pause, and replay the video to make sure I have them all transcribed correctly–because I would surely be doing so with this one too.
Sonja, in the interim, your coaching got me through a [cuss word] of an excruciating transit whilst maintaining a consistent mindset, and heartset, [which lead even heart-brain coherence] of Love. Feeling the Dove you discussed in this one. Proof of the pudding is in the tasting; excellent flavor of counsel here; HAD to join!
Much Love–(and very deep Gratitude)
