On Sept. 17th at 7am EDT, the Moon aligns with the Sun in 25 degrees of Virgo, marking the beginning of a new Moon cycle. Feel free to click here and watch my New Moon video on the subject.
Not only is this the beginning of a new Moon cycle, it is also a “SuperMoon“; these occur when the Moon becomes either Full or New while at its closest distance to the Earth.
SuperMoons generate greater gravitational and electromagnetic forces and therefore increased effects on our physical, mental, and emotional bodies. This, in turn, facilitates greater shifts in consciousness.
This Super New Moon also has an abundance of planets in Earth signs, similar to the last Full Moon (that was exact on Sept. 2nd). The Moon & the Sun in Virgo, Jupiter, Pluto & Saturn in Capricorn, and Uranus in Taurus. This means that our physical & structural realities, and the sustainability of those realities, take the forefront on both the individual and collective levels.
Ask yourself: Is my current life — its form and how it’s set up structurally — sustainable as it is? What if “simplifying my life” supported my current structures?
There are also four stationing planets in this New Moon chart: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto!
This means all four of these planet’s energies are exalted, making their vibrations louder — something is “in our face” in relation to these energies for the next month, demanding our attention and awareness. I will talk more about this below, but first let’s look at the Virgo energy of this Super New Moon:
Virgo provides an opportunity to learn about being of service — and what it might mean to strengthen our focus on improving our daily routines — getting organized, for example — and taking care of health matters.
This New Moon cycle will thus be a great time to begin new projects that demand attention to detail, list-making, and taking pride in “small” accomplishments. We might start a new health regimen, perhaps by paying close attention to our diet; we could also set up specific routines that help us manage our lives in constructive and mindful ways.
This cycle is all about handling the nitty-gritty details of our day-to-day life in an organized, step-by-step fashion, so we can free our minds of clutter. Where could you use more open space?

Things to watch out for: sweating the details, worrying, and being extra-critical of ourselves and others when something doesn’t get done “right”.
Another great way to step into the higher vibrations of Virgo: recognize, as best as you can, that humility, self-improvement, and being of service bring you closer to your inner divinity and your Soul’s path.
Ask yourself: How could I, as a Spirit-being, operate more efficiently in the physical world? Might tweaking my daily routines help me function better in the physical world? Might that also support me in being of service? What benefits might I reap if I could better discern between the essential and the redundant?
Since the New Moon in Virgo trines Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn (both of which are exalted at the time of the New Moon), we can ask ourselves: How might taking a practical approach to our daily routines serve the long-term vision of ourselves (individually & collectively)? What if we applied that same approach to health-related routines? What could we achieve if we brought 5% more humility to our long-term plans?
Virgo and Capricorn are Earth signs, so getting down to business and focusing on the task at hand takes less effort than normal. We are more capable than normal of looking at the details, and focusing on what’s sitting right in front of us that demands to be taken care of, so we can get to the next phase of accomplishment.
We are invited to look at all the practical implications; we need to slow down and take our time if we are to manifest something that can stand the test of time — rushing things will most likely backfire right now.
Commitment and discipline are the keys to understanding our purpose right now. We face life on life’s terms and feel up to doing so. Ask yourself: Where might a deepening of my understanding of my own motivations lead me? What in my life needs to transform? What could I strip away that is no longer connected with who I am now? What fears and attachments could I now release that no longer serve my evolution? Am I willing to let them go, just for now, and just as best as I can?
The New Moon also squares the current Moon Nodes in Gemini/Sagittarius, which means we are collectively at a crossroads: We are being asked to take a 90-degree turn, to gain a new perspective, to explore different avenues leading to different outcomes, especially in regards to our health routines and daily well-being.
Ask yourself: What beliefs are holding me back from living a healthy life? What do I need to implement in my daily routines, so I can be healthy and happy? Could I be open to shifting my perception? Where have I made assumptions? Which one of my “filters” could I do without for a while, just as an exercise in freedom? How might a good dose of discernment serve me right now?
Last but not least, the New Moon also quincunxes Mars in Aries (also exalted at the time of the New Moon); this calls for some inner adjustments.
We are invited to develop an inner awareness around two very different urges: on the one hand, the desire to engage in personal passion projects and cover new ground fast — and on the other, the need to tend to our daily routines, observing what works and what doesn’t, as well as being of service to others.
Ask yourself: Am I over-analyzing things? Am I being too impulsive or impatient? What might need simplifying in my life, so I can take the next step forward?
A Quincunx between Aries and Virgo can also indicate a health-aspect, so ask yourself: Where do I need to make adjustments so my body doesn’t experience “burn out”? What needs my discernment (or even my careful evaluation) so I can move forward with vigor and passion?
Stay as open and observant as you can — especially since Mars is still exalted due to its Station phase — and also retrograde.
Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is currently in Libra; it makes a Square to Jupiter in Capricorn, and a Quincunx to Neptune in Pisces. Let’s unpack that:
The Square to Jupiter in Capricorn is an invitation to bring expansion and new perspectives to our interactions with others. As Jupiter and Mars are both still exalted at the time of the New Moon, impatience might be a given — but moving faster or doing more is not necessarily better in this case.
Ask yourself: What have I learned in the last 4 months about my abilities and limitations? How can I apply that knowledge to my interactions with others at this time? What if I slowed down just 5% when connecting with others, so I can practice listening 5% more? What might be possible in my collaborations with others if I was 5% more aware of my assumptions in that moment?
The Quincunx to Neptune in Pisces indicates some inner struggles or adjustments that need to be made — we may feel confused at times, as we are feeling an internal pull in some very different directions: going within, slowing things down and getting quiet, versus connecting with others one-on-one. We are seeking an inner transformation.
Ask yourself: What am I sensing? Intuiting? Where does the inner experience of love and connectedness meet the outer? What do I currently experience in my relationships that doesn’t seem to be a good fit with my ideals, dreams, and fantasies?
How could I learn more about collaboration? What calls out to be communicated in my relationships? Where might I be avoiding any such communications? Could I give myself some space, time, and love around all of this?
Lastly, Venus in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus; this indicates that priorities are shifting, and we may feel uneasy around others. We may also struggle to reconcile freedom with material safety (the latter could show up as fears around financial goals) and in fact it’s best to look long and hard before you leap into any financial decisions at this time.
Ask yourself: Could I give myself 5% more space when it comes to relationships with others? My relationship with myself? With money? How might flexibility and creative solutions support me when things take a different or unexpected turn? Could I keep my mind and heart 5% more open no matter what happens?
To sum it all up, the message of this Super New Moon is loud and clear: It invites us to assess the quality of our lives in all areas. It spotlights how less can be more (clutter, “busyness”, stress) and how this translates into a more satisfying and meaningful life, long-term.
Be Mindful. Dedicate yourself to what’s important with compassion in your heart! Remember that perfection is not a goal, it is a journey.
Ask yourself: What if I favored progress over perfection? How could I release “old” dogmas? What if I discerned what’s truly important to me and focused there for improvements? How do I communicate my thoughts and findings to others? Could I bring 5% more maturity and responsibility to the table when being of service to others?
When life slows down, speeds up, or becomes uncomfortable, simplify and be patient. We are changing and growing in ways that we can’t comprehend right now.

Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in 23-27 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle. Intentions are best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase.
So this month, the best and most potent time to set intentions would be between 7:00am and 7:42am on Sept. 17th; and then again from 2:56pm on Sept. 17th until 7:00am on Sept. 19th (New York-time).
If you live in a timezone other than EDT (that’s the US East Coast time zone), feel free to join my Facebook Fan-page or follow me on twitter. I will be posting reminders on Sept. 17th and 18th throughout the day, and on Sept. 19th in the morning, to let you know when it is time to set your intentions 😉
