On Feb. 1st at 12:46am EST, a powerful New Moon in almost 12.5 degrees of Aquarius becomes exact; this is the beginning of a new Moon cycle. I also recommend you watch my video on the subject.
This Lunar cycle invites us to go out there and connect (or re-connect) with “our people” – with a tribe that resonates, a cause that feels aligned with our principles and our integrity, a connection that serves a larger vision for the future, etc.
This New Moon is unique in that it takes place on the same day as Chinese New Year and marks the beginning of the Year of the Yang Water Tiger, emphasizing the importance of caution, growth, development, challenge, creation, and planning. Ask yourself: Where am I ready for a new plan? Where do I need to still implement some changes in order to move forward?
The Tiger in Chinese Astrology represents power, prestige, and autonomy. Yang-Water is connected to flowing water, like a river, or the clouds in the sky. So you could say: when we allow the flow to guide us (in other words, when we trust our intuition), we grow stronger and can achieve more.
According to Chinese Astrology, 2022 is a great year to start a business or career goal: We are full of energy to take on a challenge and set off on an adventure.
Coming back to Western, Tropical Astrology, we have two exalted planets in this New Moon chart: Mercury (the planet of communication & how we process information) and Venus (the planet of self-worth & how we relate to others). Both of them are currently in Capricorn, and are thus asking us to be extra-mindful about connecting to a healthy sense of responsibility and self-reliance.
Mercury comes to a halt — ending its 3-week Retrograde phase — only 2.5 days after the New Moon becomes exact (on Feb. 3rd in the late evening), while Venus ends her 6-week Retrograde phase only 3 days before the New Moon becomes exact on Jan. 29th, at 3:36am EST.
When a planet changes directions, its energy will be “louder” for some days before and after that shift. Venus has been “louder” since Jan. 23rd and will continue to ask for our attention until Feb. 4th. Mercury will be exalted until Feb. 6th.
When planets end Retrograde phases, they are ready to move forward and bring to the world whatever material they have learned and integrated during the Retrograde. Ask yourself…

Ask yourself: What did I learn about my long-term goals, my aspirations, and how I want to show up, out there in the world (within current social structures)? What have I learned about my sense of self-worth and the value I bring to the world?
Where are my limitations? Where does my expertise lie? How much do I honor myself and what I am contributing to the world?
What did I learn about my affiliations with like-minded people? What needed to be addressed with regards to any group experiences, humanitarian causes, or technology? What did I learn about my unique ability to make a difference in my communities or networks?
What am I ready to bring to the world from all those realizations? What felt most in alignment with my inner core?
From February 4th to April 29th, all planets will be in forward motion. This indicates an accelerated time of manifestation — especially connected to new projects or new ideas.
Ask yourself: What in my life is asking for accelerated progress? What am I wishing to manifest with the support of the Universe?
The New Moon aligns with Saturn in Aquarius and all three “planets” square Uranus in Taurus. Let’s first talk a little bit about Aquarius in general and what this energy represents before jumping into the aspects of this New Moon chart:
The highest vibration of Aquarius represents the threshold of individuation and the attainment of group consciousness, where we transcend differences of gender, race, religion, and nationality, and realize that we are all members of the human race. It is the energy of equality and diversity, freedom and reform, collaboration and community.
With the synergistic power of Aquarius —where combined efforts achieve far more than individual actions, and where everyone matters — we could make great progress in a short amount of time.
However, if we have not successfully navigated the prior stages — especially the Capricorn stage, which is the development of a healthy sense of responsibility, maturity, and self-reliance — we blindly conform to what we have been conditioned into rather than what is actually in true alignment with who we are and how we want to show up in the world.
For most of human history, being cast out usually meant certain death, either quickly and gruesomely at the hands (and teeth) of predators, or slowly through starvation. Nonconformity still sometimes exacts a steep price, ranging from ridicule to murder; unconsciously, we store memories of dire consequences for not going along with “the tribe”.
Ask yourself: If my body was wired for survival, what would its natural response be to any perceived threat? How could I settle and soothe myself and my body as and when these natural survival reactions show up? What if I chose to tune in and trust myself rather than tune outwards and trust everyone else?
Here is another way this denser vibration of Aquarius could show up: we could get stuck in the polar opposite — feeling alienated, unable to relate to others who are different, and isolate ourselves.
Ask yourself: Do I struggle sometimes with being an outsider? What if I was never meant to fit in? What if my purpose was to help humanity with its evolutionary process rather than to blend in? Have I been considered an “oddball” or a “black sheep” in the past? What if I could connect with other “oddballs” and “black sheep”? How might that make me feel less alienated? Where can I find “my people”? My community?
We get trapped in these denser vibration when we do not take responsibility for our part in the collective — when we do not honor our individual genius, our unique contribution to society, or to our communities.
Ask yourself: What if I allowed myself to be both different and connected to others? What stops me from being me when I am with my “tribe”?
Imagine a world where everyone was a clone of yourself. Same features, personality, preferences, style, ideas, beliefs… same everything! How long could a world like that exist? How long before the human spirit perished?
This New Moon aligns with Saturn in Aquarius. Saturn symbolizes form and structure on all levels, from personal ego constructs, patterns, and beliefs, to governments, corporations, and institutions of all kinds. With Saturn we are learning about limits, responsibility, and becoming our own authority.
We are asked to take responsibility for our part in the collective, to turn a critical eye on everything we envision for our future, and adopt an objective, scientific approach. We are individually and collectively invited to clarify our thoughts and take a closer look at the agreements that we made with each other on a collective level.
Should this process take place at an unconscious level, or without the appropriate steps, it will create a tremendous amount of pressure. Our resistance to this pressure could generate nagging anxiety and even depression.
As best as you can, slow down a little, and focus on what can be done within the limitations that you are currently experiencing. Rushing will backfire right now.
Ask yourself: What works for me? What doesn’t? Does my current participation in my various groups or networks align with who I am now? With where I see myself 5 years from now? What do I truly want to commit myself to?
Do the communities in my life (whether local or online) truly resonate with my personal vision for the future — as it stands now, rather than what it was 5 or 10 years ago? Which “cooperations” or businesses do I want to support? Which do I want to disconnect or part myself from?
The Sun-Moon-Saturn alignment in Aquarius squares Uranus in Taurus in this New Moon chart. This means that we will be dealing with some uncomfortable interactions with others, and with uncertainty on a personal and collective level. Giving ourselves space (and giving lots of space to others) is essential.
Ask yourself: What do I value differently from others? How could these differences spark a creative process? How might they bring diversity and innovation to our collective interactions? Where do I need to be more flexible? Where are the edges of the box I need to think outside of?
Most of us want peace and abundance for ourselves and others, a world in which we can all appreciate and enjoy life with minimal interruption, and with the certainty that we are physically taken care of — so ask: What if my taking the time to focus on building a future that realistically supports all human beings could actually bring all that about for everyone… myself included?
Squares always mark important turning points, where we have to make some kind of shift before we can move forward. Saturn and Uranus are in a waning Square, requiring a shift in perspective and a release of what blocks future development.
Ask yourself: What might a broader perception of reality give me? What if I explored alternatives that support me with what really matters? With what is sustainable and best for all concerned? Could I allow myself to be 5% more inventive, authentic and willing to operate without social approval?
The Sun-Moon-Saturn alignment in Aquarius also makes a Sextile to Chiron in Aries. This presents an opportunity to connect with others and engage in a healing process around our personal identities that could bring us progress. Ask yourself: What if taking a compassionate approach towards myself and others actually made for a better future for all humankind?
How might a gentler and more holistic approach to my personal goals and aspirations create communities that support everyone’s differences and unique quirks?
Let’s talk about some of the other aspects in this New Moon chart: an exalted Mercury aligns with Pluto in Capricorn and an exalted Venus is starting to align with Mars in Capricorn. As we can see, lots of planetary alignments in Capricorn.
The Mercury-Pluto alignment gives us tremendous mental focus — which could tip into obsession. Especially with an exalted Mercury (that is still Retrograde at the time of the New Moon), pay attention to your thoughts, and take the pressure off whenever possible.
Choose love over fear! Connect to the things you feel passionate about — and connect to others, empowering them with your passions (that includes yourself!). As best as you can, choose your words carefully — if possible, speak from that deeply connected and empowered place.
The Venus-Mars alignment represents a marriage of courage and collaboration, inviting us to allow the masculine (active/doing/asserting) and feminine (receiving/allowing/being) to work together — in a responsible way.
Ask yourself: Where do I need to be more courageous when it comes to my authentic standing in society? What if I responded to situations in a way that respects and serves all those involved? What if I became 5% more aware of my personal power? Where might I have given it away to others? And how might I begin to reclaim it?
With so many planets in Capricorn, it is important for us to take breaks or simply slow down and allow ourselves to tune in. It’s important to nurture our “inner baby” and stay emotionally connected to family or loved ones.
Ask yourself: Could I take the pressure off just a tiny bit every day? What would 100% responsibility for my life look like? Does that include how I treat myself? Could I allow myself to receive 5% more love and support from trusted sources?
The Venus-Mars alignment also squares Chiron in Aries. This combo asks us to stretch ourselves and find ways towards being more forgiving with ourselves and others instead of harsh and hard.
Ask yourself: What might I be able to contribute to the world if I embraced my own humanity just 5% more?
What might become possible if I was willing to just “be with” my insecurities, “sensitivities”, or past wounding, without trying to fix them? What if my attempts to fix them were the very thing keeping me from seeing the divine perfection of it all?
Mercury also sextile Neptune in Pisces: this aspect provides a particularly potent opportunity to bring an intuitive and creative approach to building various foundations in our lives — both individually and collectively.
Ask yourself: What might transpire if I brought 5% more compassion and acceptance to my inner and outer long-term processes? What could I manifest if I was simply present in the now-moment to all the energies inside and around me? What would my starting point be then? How could my mind apply and support the guidance of my intuitive heart?
Jupiter sextiles Uranus in Taurus and the Venus-Mars alignment in Capricorn. This is an opportunity to be very present, to connect with others from the heart and share a new vision about the Earth, or to reinvent how we connect with “the good things in life”.
We also have a unique opportunity right now to more courageously trust our inner processes, while also allowing the Universe/Source/our Higher Selves to step in and guide us as we expand structures (individually and collectively) that support something sustainable and long-lasting.
Ask yourself: What does this look like for me? How might I contribute to the collective version of that effort? What if I explored things that could make my own and other people’s life easier on a very practical level?
What if I allowed myself to intuitively share some progress-oriented new ideas about what is important to me? What would it look like if I celebrated (and leveraged) my idealism and unorthodox approaches to life’s challenges?
Quantum Physics tells us that the observer affects the observed, and this implies that our focus determines our experience of reality — whenever we meditate, pray, bless, or hold loving thoughts, either by ourselves, with others, for ourselves, for others, we create a better reality for all of us.
Ask yourself: Could I just experiment with this “theory” for a week or two? What if there was no downside to trying it out? Would I do it then?
To sum it all up: we are ready to change the status quo, both in our own individual lives, and also collectively — and this could come with challenges and some breakdowns, plus some nervous energy and impatience — so definitely bring as much objectivity to your interactions as possible.
As best as you can, bring a sense of flow and faith to who you are being, and practice self-alignment and self-responsibility, whenever possible.
We also may experience sudden spurts of energy moving through our bodies, so we need to ground ourselves regularly, or channel these “disruptive” energies in a healthy way. Exercise would be a good channel, as would healthy debates, brainstorming about reforms or finances, etc. 😉
Since we experience a need to connect with like-minded people while remaining objective, but also want to break free from outdated value systems, we may have to directly address what we value — both in others, and in ourselves.
Ask yourself: What outdated values am I ready to release? Where do I take other people’s values personally? What if agreeing with other people’s values was overrated? What if respectful disagreement was valuable to everyone involved?
What if diversity was the greatest gift we could give to each other at this time? What if time really did “heal all”? What if time also brought wholeness to all? If that were so, how much patience would be just the right amount?
As best as you can, remember why you are here at this momentous time of change on this planet. “Think Different”, “Keep your Heart open” and come together. Help birth a new world one day at a time.

James Clear, says it beautifully in this article: “For most of our evolutionary history, our ancestors lived in tribes. Becoming separated from the tribe—or worse, being cast out—was a death sentence… When we have to choose between the two, people often select friends and family over facts… The way to change people’s minds is to become friends with them, to integrate them into your tribe, to bring them into your circle… As proximity increases, so does understanding… If someone you know, like, and trust believes a radical idea, you are more likely to give it merit, weight, or consideration… the best place to ponder a threatening idea is in a non-threatening environment. As a result, books are often a better vehicle for transforming beliefs than conversations or debates… The word “kind” originated from the word “kin.” When you are kind to someone it means you are treating them like family… Develop a friendship. Share a meal. Gift a book. Be kind first, be right later.”
Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in 10-15 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, or Scorpio? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
Finally, let’s talk “New Moon Intentions” 🙂 The New Moon is the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle; this is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact, and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase.
That means that this month, the best time to set intentions would be any time between 12:46am and 6:01am on Feb. 1st, and then again, from 6am on Feb. 2nd until 12:46am on Feb. 3rd -(New York Time/US Eastern Time)
If you live in a timezone other than EST (US East Coast), and converting timezones isn’t your thing, I suggest joining my Facebook Fanpage and/or following me on Twitter. I will post reminders to let you know when it is time to set your New Moon intentions 😉
