New Moon in Gemini — article | Astrologer Coach Sonja Francis

On June 3rd at 6:02am EDTthe Moon aligns with the Sun in 12.5 degrees of Gemini. This the beginning of a new Moon cycle. Feel free to also watch my video on the subject

One major thing to note in this New Moon chart is that we have 5 planets in the signs over which they rule — this means that these planets feel very much at home and more empowered. The following 5 planets are in their own signs: Mercury (which is also the ruler of this New Moon), Venus in Taurus, Jupiter in Sagittarius, Saturn in Capricorn, and Neptune in Pisces (which also happens to be stationing and is therefore exalted, making its vibrational spin louder).

Something is “in our face” in regards to Neptune’s energies for the whole next month — something is demanding our attention and awareness. I will also talk more about all of this below, but first let’s, look at the Gemini influence of this New Moon.

With the New Moon in Gemini, for the next four weeks, we are asked to connect with others, and share our little hearts out, because Gemini is the archetype of curiosity, communication in all its forms, and mental connections — it represents the development of language and intelligence, as well as our ability to adapt and relate to our immediate environment.

This is a “busy” energy focused on collecting information. We are invited to look at our mental programming and conditioned mind, to see what needs to go, and to see what new thought structures we might want to create in its place.

Gemini is asking us to stay in motion, to think about all that we’ll need to know in order to move forward, and to connect and share ourselves with others. Here are some questions you can ask yourself for this New Moon: What motivates me to learn? When I talk to myself about sharing or processing information, what do I typically say? What do I say to myself about being connected to others? About my intellectual capacities?

The spiritual goal of Gemini is the development of…

The spiritual goal of Gemini is the development of perception, thought, and communication; we are therefore invited to become aware of all the new connections that are created in the brain with each new thought or memory — and the more we think a particular thought, the deeper those pathways become.

So, ask yourself: What mental paths do I keep heading down, even though I know I don’t need to go there anymore? What might curiosity do for me when listening to myself? How about when I connect with others?

As I mentioned earlier, Mercury (the ruler of Gemini) is in its own sign at the time of the New Moon — and is therefore exalted. Social interactions are important to us: we are invited to remain curious, and focus on listening, as well as sharing.

Mercury is symbolized as the messenger of the heavens, and as such remains neutral, delivering information without agenda. You may recall the saying: “don’t shoot the messenger!” This is a good prompt that reminds us to process information, share it, and keep an open mind. Bear in mind that when thoughts move through consciousness, they are neither good or bad, but are simply information, coming either from our conditioning or other outside sources.

Ask yourself: If that were true, what might I choose to do with the information that comes into consciousness when a thought passes through?

Jupiter (also in its own sign) in Sagittarius, opposes the New Moon and Mercury in Gemini. This asks us to balance our capacity to  share and process information against our ability to connect to a larger truth — something beyond the facts, that helps us see the bigger picture.

For the next two weeks, ask yourself: What do I say to myself about life and its impact on me? What thoughts keep coming up that have defined me in the past? Where do I need to listen with greater intent? Where do I need to speak up? Am I coming from a place of “already always listening”? In other words, do I really hear what is being said, or am I merely pretending to listen, so I can speak and move on?

Neptune in Pisces is exalted because of its station phase, and because it is in its own sign — and it squares the New Moon and Jupiter in Sagittarius, creating a T-Square with Neptune as the focus point. This might create feelings of disconnection or restlessness. Ask yourself: Where does the desire for knowing what’s next drown out the intuitive voice that knows and understands the power and love the present moment provides?

The Solution with all T-squares is to focus on the empty leg, in this case: Virgo. Having a daily practice that brings us closer to ourselves — our divine selves — will be essential in the next four weeks. Ask yourself: What might a daily practice of “kindness towards myself” look like? How might 5% more compassion support my relationship with the inner divine? What might a morning practice of “visualizing my day” do for me?

How could I inspire myself to come from a place of acceptance and understanding when dealing with my work or health routines? How might making a list support me in being more present? What about discerning and prioritizing? Would this create an inner calm?

As mentioned earlier, Neptune in Pisces is slowing down as it prepares to come to a halt and start its retrograde phase on June 21st; this preparation amplifies the call to release whatever is no longer in the best interest of all concerned.

Neptune’s energy is strong, with both its higher and lower vibrations becoming clearer; this helps us connect more fully to those energies as they exist within us and shows us where we need to either embrace them more fully, or connect to them in a healthier way — ways that don’t involve getting lost in the murky, lower vibrations of their expression (escapism, addiction, denial, illusions, etc.).

Ask yourself: What is my relationship to my own imagination? How do I use it? Do I tend to imagine “worse case scenarios” or visualize what I wish to create?

What’s my relationship to my intuition? If I get quiet enough, can I catch its subtle voice? When I hear it, can I take that moment to really heed what it says — and then trust it? Who has the last word — my mind, or my heart?

As best as you can, simply observe — this is not about doing the right or wrong thing, but about becoming more aware of how we are connected to this energy. During Neptune’s retrograde, we’ll get a chance to connect to it from within, in such a way that we’ll feel its vibration inside of us.

Mars in Cancer conjuncts the North Node, and opposes Saturn and the South Node in Capricornthe alignment to the North Node indicates that we are invited to focus on Self-care, and take actions that support our emotional connections with others.

Ask yourself: What actions do I still need to take, so I can feel supported in my endeavors? What needs to happen in these areas of my life: household projects, family, self-care, real-estate? What does receiving emotional support look like to me? What does providing emotional support look like? What am I willing to “fight” for?

The opposition to Saturn and the South Node invites us to find a balance between our long-term goals and nurturing connections at home. Pushing too hard or too fast doesn’t always get us the results we want — it’s time to slow down a little, catch our breath.

Mars last aligned with Saturn in Capricorn back on April 2nd, 2018. Think back to that time: What began? What seeds were planted? What commitments did you make? How far have you come since then? In other words, what has emerged since Spring 2018, in regards to career, long-term goals, public image, becoming an expert in something, or being an authority figure in your field?

You are also now more aware of what you have (and haven’t) accomplished since then… Do you like what you see? Is there room for more integration in any of these areas?

Venus in Taurus trines Pluto in Capricorn at the time of the New Moon. This indicates that we now learn to appreciate the important people in our lives, and our value system has the ability to transform and evolve over the next couple of weeks. Work we’ve done might pay off, and we are able to manage our finances better, with more attention to sustainability, planning, and strategy — as well as the elimination of anything that no longer serves us. We tend to want to connect on a deeper level.

Ask yourself: What am I feeling drawn to on a deep instinctive level? What deep desires are surfacing? What values can I no longer compromise? What if inner confidence met emotional authenticity? Could I be open to the people, places, and things that can make this “meeting” a reality?

To sum it all up for this New Moon: We are seeking balance on many levels, internally and externally. As best as you can, remain curious, open-minded and adaptable for the next 28 days. Trust yourself, you already have what it takes… Your inner knowingness is ready for you whenever you are!

Ask yourself: Am I just my mind, or am I more than my mind? If I’m more than just my mind, what is beyond the mind? What might I discover if I stay open to being inspired by life, rather than focusing on all the “bad” news and denser vibrational thoughts that come through?

What do I still need to release to be ready to receive my future? How have I overburdened myself? What might lighten my load?

Again, feel free to also watch my video on the subject.

Do you have your Ascendant, Career Point (or personal planets) in 10-15 degrees of Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo or Pisces?  If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly; this is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo, the Moon rules Cancer)

The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle; this is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase.

So… this month, we have two periods that are great times to set intentions: First, any time between 6:02am, on June 3rd and 11:42am, on June 4th. If you aren’t able to do it during that time period, wait 35 minutes and set them between 12:17pm, on June 4th and 6:02am, on June 5th (all times are in Eastern Daylight Time — the timezone New York City occupies). For more info on setting New Moon Intentions click here.

If you live in a timezone other than EDT (US East Coast-time), I recommend you join my Facebook Fan-page or follow me on twitter, as I post reminders on June 3rd throughout the day, and June 4th afternoon/evening, to let you know when it is time to set your intentions 😉
